Securing Your Data: Shared Hosting Backups

Securing Your Data: Shared Hosting Backups

Sharing is Caring

When considering a shared hosting plan, various factors likely cross your mind. You may ponder whether your monthly costs will remain consistent, if you’ll be tied into a contract, or how you can effectively manage your websites. While these are critical questions, one aspect that often gets overlooked is the importance of data backup. It might be the last thing on your mind, but in reality, it should be a key consideration when choosing a web hosting provider. At WebHostingPeople, we take pride in offering our shared hosting customers weekly backups, providing them with the flexibility and peace of mind essential for running a website.

The place Does this Possibility Exist?
After logging into your my.webhostingpeople.net account, you’ll be directed to your homepage. Here, you can access any web hosting package or other services you have with us. Within your control panel, you’ll find a button labeled “download backups.” With this valuable feature at your fingertips, you’ll never need to worry about losing your website due to a malfunction or disaster.

The way it Works

To fulfill our commitment to data backup, we employ an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) known as OpenStack, often referred to as Swift. Some of you may be familiar with this service, while others may be hearing about it for the first time. That’s perfectly fine because we’ll briefly explain the importance of OpenStack. Imagine yourself in a vast data center where data redundancy is essential, and information is distributed across numerous servers. In the event of a server failure (though we hope it never happens), data can be swiftly copied from the cloud onto multiple servers that run this service. Swift empowers us to avoid major disasters. Keep in mind that we can store up to 11GB of your website’s data. If your data exceeds this limit, we recommend maintaining your own backups.

The beauty of our weekly backups lies in their automatic execution. You can rest easy knowing you’re in capable hands. We retain at least three copies of these backups for a minimum of 60 days. This extended retention period adds an extra layer of redundancy as a precaution. Our primary goal is to provide all the necessary resources for your business to run smoothly.
